Virginia Health Services is hiring a Custodian for The Newport, located in Newport News, VA. This position is Part Time, Days, 7:30am - 4pm and 6 Days per pay period, including every other weekend.

The Custodian has the following responsibilities:

  • Repairing and maintaining facility equipment.
  • Maintaining facility floors.
  • Installing new equipment.
  • Maintaining facilities lighting.
  • Driving company van when assigned.
  • Collecting, transporting and disposing of linen and trash, ensuring proper handling and disposal (excluding regulated medical waste.)
  • Maintaining equipment and equipment storage closets in a clean, safe, and orderly manner.
  • Ensuring all chemicals are stored/disposed of and/or used safely.
  • Performing preventive maintenance.
  • Complying with all established policies and procedures.
  • Promoting and demonstrating positive customer service towards VHS, co-workers, residents, family members and visitors.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Knowledge of operation of various machines and equipment and general maintenance procedures.
  • Valid Driver's License in good standing.
  • Computer knowledge preferred.
  • Ability to read, write, analyze, and interpret information.
  • Ability to effectively respond to questions.
  • While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, turn, bend, stoop, lift, push, pull, reach, talk, hear, taste and smell.
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull and move up to 100 pounds.
  • Must be able to perform tasks in inclement weather when needed.
  • Risk of exposure to blood borne pathogens and hazardous materials.
